Sidari, Corfu
Sidari is actually two small coastal villages connected by a long sweeping sandy beach and two smaller beaches. With the effects of tourism, the villages have merged together over the last few years to make one large resort.
The distance from Corfu town and the airport is about 40 km and the drive time you need to get there, its about 45 minutes. It used to be a small fishing place when in the early 80’s it became a popular tourist destination. Every year since then is growing bigger and bigger. Today it is a large commercial resort which can offer accommodation up to 10.000 people!
Sidari is certainly for those looking for a popular lively place with plenty of clubs, music bars and pubs, which are offering a great nightlife!
Sidari main beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag and is full of water sports activities ! There are also several little bays with small beaches around the area of Sidari. These beaches are of unrivalled beauty! There are rock formations of a particularly striking nature which form a huge number of tiny coves and narrow channels.
One of them, of distinctive beauty is called: “Channel of love” or “Canal d’ amour”! An area of eroding sandstone cliffs that have formed several tiny sand and shingle coves, reached by paths and even ladders. The tradition says that anyone who manages to swim right along it will soon meet the partner of his or her dreams. This point is recommended for diving.
Someone can also explore fine beaches in Roda & Acharavi ( North Corfu ) and to the west of Sidari, all in short drives. Also from Sidari can go to the traditional villages of Peroulades, and Avliotes and to the lovely beaches of Agios Stefanos, Arillas and Agios Georgios Pagon. Another excursion that someone can take from Sidari, is to Diapontia islands of Mathraki, Othoni and Ericousa which are approx. 7 miles away from the mainland, at the Northest frontiers of Greece .
