Mykonos

Things to do - general

Among the Greek islands, Mykonos – with no doubt – is the most famous for the cosmopolitan atmosphere, the exciting nightlife, the unrevealed Cycladic architecture and the magnificent beaches. Mykonos, a small island known also as The island of Winds, constitutes a thrilling destination, marrying jet set venues with nature’s rich heritage.
It is one of the Cycladic islands, in the Aegean Sea, has got a regular connection with the ports of Piraeus or Rafina and an airport connecting it with Athens, Thessaloniki and other major cities in Greece. During the summer period, there are frequent charter flights from all over the world.
This is the first Greek island that made tourism worth of its natural pores, the sea and the sun in the middle 50’s and during 70’s, 80’s, 90’s it became fashionable for every artist, politician or businessman. In nowadays Mykonos is no longer a fashionable destination but a stable value for any holiday style.
Mykonos Town or Hora, presents a different picture from all the other island towns as in its harbour little fishing boats nestle happily side by side with luxury yachts. The town spreads out over a flat area and conveys the impression of solid aesthetic cohesion, in against to all other island towns, which are build on naturally amphitheatrically sites. It is famed as the quintessential town with maze like narrow paths framed by dazzlingly white-washed buildings.
Alefkandra or Little Venice, is a unique neighborhood all over Greece, as the waves splash windows and create an amazing landscape. The adjacent neighborhood of Kastro, the Archaeological Museum, the picturesque windmills, the church of Panayia Paraportiani and shopping in Matogianni (a famous street with fashion boutiques) are some of the hottest spots of Mykonos.
The island is only a small one and easily explored. It has great beaches with soft white sand and crystal blue waters, offering all sorts of entertainment.
Super Paradise and Paradise are the top and most famous in Aegean Sea. Elia beach, with the endless golden shore, Platys Yialos, with the amazing water sports, Agios Ioannis, Kalafatis, Ftelia, Ornos, Psarou, Tourlos, Houlakia, Agios Stefanos, Ano Mera and Megali Ammos are some more worldwide famous beaches on the island.
Mykonos’ nightlife is from the very best ones in Mediterranean, with famous DJs who come from all over Europe to perform in the wild clubs. For those seeking a bacchanal holiday with sun and beach during the day and endless partying in the night, Mykonos is the right place.

Transfers in Mykonos
The central bus station is in Fabrika and there are local buses to all over the island.
Only 25 taxis are in operation and a taxi transportation can become an exercise of great patience. For this reason it is suggested that you pre-arrange a taxi for your arrival. This means that you will be met at the port/airport by a person holding a sign with your name on it, who will then take you to your accommodation. Since there are no street names or building numbers for addresses in Mykonos this is also extremely helpful because you will be shown to your lodging.
